Erosion closes section of Gros Ventre Road
UPDATE: 6-29-17 10:51 a.m. The Gros Ventre Road in Grand Teton National Park is now open to alternating one-lane traffic with traffic control devices. According to Teton County, Wyoming Emergency Management, bicycle riders should obey traffic control devices. For safety purposes, no stopping, parking, or walking is allowed in the vicinity of the erosion-affected area along the road. ORIGINAL STORY: Grand Teton National Park has closed approximately 4.5 miles of the Gros Ventre/Kelly Road due to significant erosion along the Gros Ventre River. The erosion is threatening a section of road from Gros Ventre Junction with US Highway 26/89/191 to the Gros Ventre Campground. Traffic to the town of Kelly and the Gros Ventre Campground has been re-routed via Antelope Flats Road. According to Park Superintendent David Vela, the river bank has eroded more than 10 feet in the last 36 hours. An area closure was implemented around the affected location. Video courtesy Bradly J.
