Wild Horse fire grows to 25,712 acres
UPDATE 8/1/17 4:10 p.m. Bureau of Land Management officials said the fire is 90 percent contained, and full containment is expected tonight with control estimated for 8/2/17 at 10 p.m. UPDATE 8/1/17 10:45 a.m. Bureau of Land Management officials report the Wildhorse fire is 90% contained as of 10:45 a.m Tuesday. Crews estimate to have the fire fully contained by 2 p.m. 12 engines, 4 dozers and 2 water tender are on scene.
BLM said there are no evacuations in effect and no closures at this time.
Officials also report there wasn’t any visible smoke on the fire this morning, heat remains interior and crews will be securing the fire perimeter and mopping up. UPDATE 07/31/17 5:30 p.m.: Eastern Idaho Interagency fire crews estimate to contain the “Wildhorse” fire by 10 p.m. Monday. Officials said the dozer line is around most of the fire. ORIGINAL 7/31/17: Eastern Idaho Interagency fire crews plan to contain the “Wildhorse” fire by 8 p.m. Monday. The fire started by lightning at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday about 6 miles south of Big Southern Butte, about 35 miles west of Blackfoot. At one point, the fire was fanned by gusty winds and growing at a pace of about 2,000 acres per hour. The fire was estimated at 25,000 acres Monday. It was burning on Bureau of Land Management land in grass and sage brush. No structures were in danger. 8 engines, 4 dozers, and 1 water tender were being used to fight the fire. Several fire retardant drops were made on the fire Sunday night. Fire activity is now minimal.
