Powerline fire now 47 percent contained
The Powerline fire in Arbon Valley is now measured at 53,706 acres. Several storms, with heavy lightning activity, struck the fire line Tuesday. But rain, lower temperatures, and a higher relative humidity allowed some moisture to make it to the ground. Firefighters said there was minimal fire activity Tuesday, with some creeping, smoldering, and single-tree torching in unburned islands within the containment lines. The fire is 47 percent contained. Another round of thunderstorms, winds, and possible hail are expected Wednesday. Crews will be working Wednesday to remove potential hazards in the Pauline area. Dozers, engines, and hand crews will continue to strengthen and secure the 72-mile fire perimeter, especially around and adjacent to structures. The Arbon Valley Highway is open for public traffic. Some cows displaced by the fire may be found on the road.
There are 468 personnel assigned to the fire manning 6 helicopters, 7 dozers, 29 engines, and tenders. There are 8 Type 1 “hotshot” crews and 4 Type 2 hand crews.
