Bonneville County fairgrounds moving to new location

The Bonneville County Fairgrounds are getting a new location.

The 4-H club has outgrown the space it is currently on. With the limited space and a fear over safety concerns, Bonneville County bought land to move the fairgrounds.

“The safety concerns that are over there for parking, trailers bringing livestock in has caused us to look for new property really for the past 10 years,” Bryon Reed, Bonneville County Commissioner, said.

The new grounds are just south of the Sandy Downs Horse Arena. They provide space and new opportunities for the 4-H club.

“When we see that we’re going from five acres up to 30 acres,” Stan Boyle, Bonneville County Fair Chairman, said. “And the chance to plan and plan it correctly to where we can have this and make it easier and more accessible and something that will not be a safety hazard for people. We think that this is just a win win situation for everybody.”

The fair has been growing over the past four years. The new grounds will host three buildings and an arena, giving the chance for the fair activities to expand.

“Especially our livestock numbers are growing each and every year,” Reed said. “With this new property it will also give us the room to be able to do other types of events such as shooting, archery; be able to expand into many different areas of 4-H.”

After almost 10 years of waiting, the 4-H club is finally getting the space they need.

“The question has always been, when is it going to happen,” Boyle, said. “When is it going to happen? And because of that we’re happy that it’s happening now.”
