TEDxJacksonHole speakers announced

TEDxJacksonHole organizers announced the lineup for this year’s event on Tuesday, August 22.

Presenters from the world of astronomy and science to the realms of healing and creativity will reveal their perspectives on the “Out of Darkness” theme.

A full list of presentations below:

Professor and award-winning physicist Brian Greene – currently the director of Columbia’s Center for Theoretical Physics, founder of the World Science Festival and on-camera personality. Greene is responsible for several groundbreaking discoveries in the field of superstring theory. Best-selling author Alexandra “Bo” Fuller – a Jackson Hole resident who was raised by white supremacists in Rhodesia during that country’s Bush War and experienced first-hand the way racism becomes enmeshed in children. Award-winning science journalist Erik Vance – a Mexico City-based writer who has been poked, prodded, burned, electrocuted, hypnotized and even cursed by a witch doctor – all in the name of science and in his journey to unlock the hidden power of the brain. Singer/songwriter Beth McIntosh – a Wyoming native who has performed across the nation, recorded multiple albums and influenced hundreds of students. Her sons Wilden and Rainer McIntosh-Round will join her for a musical performance of a journey through fire toward redemption and victory. Dr. Laura Peticolas – a senior fellow at the Space Sciences Laboratory at the University of California who is leading tens of thousands of people to support scientific research about the Sun during the 2017 total solar eclipse using digital cameras, GPS units, and phones. Medicine man and Sun Dance Chief James Trosper – a respected voice on traditional Plains Indian spirituality and director of University of Wyoming’s High Plains American Indian Research Institute. Laurie Works – a student who witnessed the mass shooting that killed her two sisters. She has turned that tragedy into an opportunity to help heal others. Business strategist Keely Herron – a Jackson Hole entrepreneur who has traveled the world in search of a meaningful life, explored the duality of darkness and light, and debunks the happiness myth. Astronomer Dr. Laura Danly – a curator at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, who has been communicating complex ideas in science to the public for more than 30 years. Playwright Andrew Munz – an author known locally for his comedic Jackson-based theatrical trilogy “I Can Ski Forever.” After five pilgrimages to Iceland, he came to realize the place that was supposed to save him might very well destroy him. Contemporary Dance Wyoming – Under the direction of Artistic Director Babs Case, Wyoming’s only professional modern dance company will perform a visually stimulating and exhilarating interpretation of the evening’s theme.

According to officials, each presentation will be 10 minutes or less. You can find more information on the speakers at www.tedxjacksonhole.org/speakers.
