Don’t drive distracted

April is distracted driving awareness month, and most people believe that means texting or using your phone. But Idaho State Police says it’s not just limited to your phone.

It could be eating in the car, changing the station on the radio and even your children could be a distraction.

According to a recent AAA study, 88 percent believed distracted driving was the biggest concern, 49 percent said using a cell phone while driving and 35 percent said drivers sending an email or text message.

In Idaho, if you get a ticket, you would have to pay fines such as $81 dollars for texting and driving. Distracted driving would be considered a misdemeanor, and you would need to appear in court.

ISP suggests all drivers pay attention when driving, be courtesy, be polite, and be patient, and if you need to, find a safe area to pull off the highway to take a break.
