Reminder: Don’t leave children in cars
With the temperatures heating up, some areas have been placed under a heat advisory. We want to remind you of that leaving kids in the car can be fatal.
July and August are our hottest months. Even if it’s just a few minutes, temperatures can rise fast even with the window cracked. There are heat stroke deaths yearly. And something you may not think of, always check the car before you go in
“You know, go to the grocery store, put the kid in the car seat, get home, the other kids you’re rushing them in the house, grabbing the bags and one kid gets forgotten and left behind in a car seat. Always double check and make sure, before you lock it up, always check the backseat,” Captain Royce Clements with Idaho Falls Police Department.
If you see kids left in a car contact law enforcement. Officers do have the right to break the window to get the child out which could also lead to child neglect or abuse charges.
We also want to remind you not to leave your pets in the car. If you see an animal left in a car in a parking lot, have the store owner page the car’s license plate number before you contact law enforcement.
