Zion’s Bank robber sentenced for Halloween holdup
UPDATE: 7/9/18 3:20 p.m.– Matthew Todd Baker was sentenced Monday to 20 years in jail, six years minimum, for the Halloween 2017 robbery of Zion’s Bank in Ammon.
Baker still has another possible five year indeterminate term hanging over his head on a charge of witness intimidation. Judge Joel Tingey decided not to sentence Baker on that charge at this time at the recommendation of prosecutors.
Baker made the guilty plea as part of a deal with the Bonneville County Prosecutor’s Office in May.
UPDATE 5/29/18 11:45 a.m. – Bonneville County prosecutors confirmed on Tuesday Baker’s sentencing will be continued until July 9th.
They said the defense asked for a mental evaluation prior the sentencing, which the judge approved.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Matthew Todd Baker, 27, has entered into a plea agreement in connection with the Halloween 2017 robbery of Zion’s Bank in Ammon.
Baker appeared in 7th District Court Monday to plead guilty to charges of robbery and witness intimidation.
Bonneville County Chief Deputy Prosecutor John Dewey said prosecutors would recommend an eight-year fixed prison term and 12 years indeterminate for the robbery charge. They will seek zero fixed and 5 years indeterminate on the charge of witness intimidation.
Under terms of the plea agreement, Baker’s attorneys would be free to argue for a lesser sentence.
He is scheduled for sentencing before Judge Joel Tingeyon on May 29.
