Chubbuck man arrested after stealing a car and leading police on a chase that ended in a standoff
Jeffery Johnson, 28, of Chubbuck was arrested last night in the parking lot of Gold’s Gym in Pocatello, after stealing a car in Chubbuck.
Johnson stole a vehicle and then lead police on a high speed chase through the streets of Chubbuck and Pocatello, hitting speeds of 90 mph.
Police were able to stop Johnson after road spikes took out the back tires of the stolen vehicle.
Once stopped, Johnson refused to get out of the vehicle. Police were aware that there was a 9 MM weapon inside the car and brought in armored vehicles to prevent any further escalation.
Once the vehicle was surrounded by officers from all four local departments (Idaho State Police, Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, Pocatello Police Department & Chubbuck Police Department,) a Pocatello officer negotiated with Johnson for nearly an hour and a half, eventually leading to him exiting the car.
He was booked at the Bannock County jail early this morning. The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office has charged him with felony looting and felony probation violations.
Johnson had previous arrests for aggravated assault and meth possession.
He is set to be arraigned sometime this afternoon.
