6 people ‘OK’ after kayaks and raft overturn near Heise bridge
UPDATE 4:00 p.m. Two Utah families had to be rescued from the Snake River near the Heise Bridge Thursday afternoon.
Three adults and three kids were floating down from the Heise Campground when they hit a current too fast and tipped into the water.
The group was using two kayaks and one blow up raft.
One of the kayaks, containing a mother and son, hit the current too fast and tipped over.
The others came behind and tipped over too.
The group was able to hold on to their boats until they reached the side and held onto the underbrush.
The mother from the first kayak floated down to the Heise Bridge where she borrowed a phone and called 9-1-1.
Altogether the group was in the water for about 25 minutes before crews rescued them from the brush on the side of the river.
Everyone in the group was wearing a life preserver, which is likely why the outcome is so positive.
They were all checked out and other than the kids being a little scared, everyone was okay.
