Red Flag Warning issued for Friday

With gusty winds, low humidity in the forecast for Friday, the National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a Red Flag Warning for Eastern Idaho.

Red Flag Warning is in effect from 10 AM to 10 PM MDT Friday.

* WIND…West-Southwest wind gusts 25 to 35 mph at lower
elevations. Ridgetop wind gusts to 45 mph.

* HUMIDITY…7 to 16 percent.

* THUNDERSTORMS….Isolated dry thunderstorms are possible with
gusts over 40 mph possible.

* IMPACTS…any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly based on these criteria
for Southeastern Idaho:

* Relative humidity at or below 15 percent and wind gusts of at
least 25 mph in the mountains, or 30 mph in the Snake Plain.

* Thunderstorm coverage of 25 percent, without specific rainfall
criteria.

* Other high impact evens deemed critical by the National
Weather Service and area fire management agencies.
