Police arrest two in burglary scam

Rexburg Police arrested a married couple Thursday after they attempted to scam cash from Walmart.

According to police, Nikkole D. Brix, 28, of Pocatello was using a receipt scanned into her Walmart receipt app, then went through the store and took the exact items on the receipt from the shelf. She then went to the service return desk and returned those items in exchange for a gift card.

Store officials then contacted police.

Brix was taken into custody on an out-of-county warrant and also charged with burglary. Her husband, Henry Duane Brix, 32, of Twin Falls was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, receiving or possessing stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of burglary tools.

Police said a search of the couple’s car found a stash of crystal meth and liquid meth in syringes.

Captain Randy Lewis said the couple appears to have picked up discarded receipts at Walmart stores across the region and then attempted to use them to get cash returns for the value of merchandise they took from store shelves.
