Soda Springs introduces new medical helicopter
Soda Springs, a small rural community located in the center of Caribou County.
Josh, a resident of this small town, saves lives for a living. He’s a flight paramedic.
“We’re able to provide advanced hemodynamic monitoring, 12-lead interpretation, cardiac monitoring…”
Today, he demonstrated how to use their new Lucas Pulse device.
“We’re able to provide chest compressions to those who go into cardiac arrest during transport. Where as before it was little more difficult to lean over and provide compressions during flight. Now, we’re able to care for patients better than other areas in the state might be able to.”
But, that’s not all he is excited about, neither is this small town.
Wednesday, Idaho Air Rescue cut the ribbon on a new air ambulance for trauma patients needing immediate assistance.
“Air Methods Corporation in conjunction with all the local agencies, law enforcement, hospitals, ems, have determined that there is a critical need for the communities around this region of the state, they’ve determine that this is a really good spot to put a helicopter.”
Having this new helicopter could help save lives, especially in what is called the “Golden Hour.”
“They have this saying golden hour in the trauma world of need to get to surgical services within one hour and before I don’t think it was possible, meeting those requirements.”
“Everybody is excited about their ability to provide even better care to offer those services to people when they need them, said Chris Thomson, CEO of Caribou Memorial Hospital.” “There response and ability to come to the facility for those patients who show up in the emergency room is excellent. I think it was reported to me that they’ve had responses of 6 minutes.”
It was only halfway through our interview when Josh got a call for someone needing immediate assistance. It goes to show how important these guys are to the community.
