Hit and run suspect charged one year later

After a nearly year-long investigation, Bonneville County Prosecutors have filed charges against Kacey M. Spencer, 23, of Idaho Falls for the hit and run injury of a 15-year-old boy.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office believes Spencer was driving a white pickup that struck the boy while he was riding his bike from work at Arctic Circle near the intersection of 1st Street and 25th East.

Keeton Dogget was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and hospitalized. He spent many weeks recovering from his injuries.

Deputies examined numerous leads from the public, nearby security cameras and evidence from the scene. The Sheriff’s Office said the evidence required lengthy examination by specialists in tire marks, trace evidence and paint transfer.

Spencer was served with a criminal summons to appear in court on felony charges of leaving the scene of an injury accident. Spencer made his initial appearance at the Bonneville County Courthouse Tuesday.
