Rabbit fire still not contained
The lightning-caused Rabbit Foot fire was estimated at 2,589 acres Tuesday. The fire, which started last Thursday, is zero percent contained and burning in timber.
The Great Basin Interagency Incident Management Team 3 said the fire expanded to the east-southeast over the past day. The team said higher temperatures, lower humidity and drier conditions may lead to more spotting and tree torching throughout the day today.
Fire crews are trying to build defensible fire line in the Mink Creek area.
There are plans to put protective wrap around an historic cabin at Alder Creek, if needed. Resource advisors have distributed screens to firefighters for use when drafter water from creeks in designated critical habitat for bull trout. The screens protect fry (juvenile fish) from being caught in water pumps.
There are 286 personnel assigned to the fire, manning 5 20-person crews, 20 engines, 2 dozers, 2 water tenders, and 3 helicopters.
Area and road closures are unchanged.
Incident meteorologists are predicting a high pressure system with higher temperatures, lower humidity, and unpredictable winds this weekend.
