Local coaches underfire for comments online
The Bonneville High School Bee’s cross country coaches are under fire after a parent found an online web page was found accusing the coaches of “fat shaming.”
On the website on the Bonneville Bees Cross Country page, which is separate from the Bonneville High School website, states under an article called “The Cold Truth!!” that “Fat people are slow!! The farther you are from being FAT the faster you will run. (and the better you will feel).”
People on Facebook called it an insulting statement.
“They had the best intentions of promoting a healthy lifestyle with our athletes and having a positive culture on our team,” said Tyler Johnson, the athletic director for Bonneville High School. “Unfortunately, some of the wording on some of the sentences that were on the website weren’t what we wanted. They had no intentions of offending anybody.”
Johnson said he and principal Heath Jackson sat down with the cross country coaches on Wednesday and addressed the problem.
Both Johnson and Jackson will discuss with all of the high school coaches about using the internal school website so that the school can better monitor what goes on each webpage.
According to Johnson, the webpage had been up since May. It has since been taken down.
There have been no repercussions to the coaches.
