Teton County responds to numerous swatting calls
The Teton County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center is continuing to receive multiple prank calls reporting serious crimes in progress.
This practice is also known as “swatting” and is intended to disrupt the public safety system.
The Dispatch Center in a press release said they started receiving the calls at about 4:30 P.M. on August 8th.
Investigations were made with each call and all were determined to be false repots with no emergency existing.
The same caller started calling local businesses reporting similar incidents.
Most of the locations indicated have been visible from town area web cameras.
The identity of the caller and the location are unknown at this time and the Teton County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson Police Department are actively investigating.
The Sheriff’s Office and Jackson Police Department are asking for your help in tracking this caller down.
If you receive a similar call from this person, attempt to gain the caller’s number if you can, and report it to law enforcement on the non-emergency number at 307-733-2331.
The best thing you can do is to not overreact, this is what the prank caller is hoping to achieve.
They also ask that you only report prank calls regarding crimes of a serious nature such as shootings, stabbings, robberies, etc. to Teton County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch.
There is no need to report robo-calls, telemarketers, or other prank calls not related to serious crimes.
