Air attack ordered to fight Fire Trail fire
The Bridger Teton National Forest has requested air support firefighting aircraft to help fight the Fire Trail Fire.
Early Sunday the fire, initially called the Flat Fire, was estimated at around 70 acres in the Squaw Creek drainage of the Greys River Ranger District, about 5 miles west of Alpine, Wyoming. It was actively burning in heavy timber.
It started around noon Saturday when after an all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) rolled over. There were no injuries in the crash.
Two Canadair CL-415 Superscooper aircraft and a Type 1 helicopter were ordered in to help fight the fire. The helicopter can carry up to 700 gallons of water. The “scooper” planes are expected to get water from nearby Palisades Reservoir.
About 20 firefighters were fighting the fire Saturday. A Type 3 Incident Management Team has also been ordered to help attack the fire.
The Greys River Road was open, but the Squaw Murphy Creek Road was closed Sunday morning.
