Extra patrol officers watching for impaireddrivers

Extra patrol officers are hitting Idaho’s streets as part of an effort to look for impaired drivers.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office will be joining other agencies now through Labor Day in placing extra officers on the street looking for impaired drivers.

In the months of May, June and July, Idaho has experienced 82 crash fatalities, and numerous other severe injury crashes.

The sheriff’s office says far too many of those crashes have been the result of impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs or other intoxicating substances.

They say a large number of these crashes may have been prevented by someone simply choosing not to drive, or finding a safe ride home.

“If you see your family or friends about to drive when they shouldn’t, do what you can to prevent it or call your local Law Enforcement to help. It very well could be the decision that saves a life.”
