More snow needed to meet water supply goals

The Idaho Water Supply Committee got some advice Friday; “Think Snow.”

NRCS snow survey experts said the state needs more snow to achieve 100 percent or more water supply in the Upper Snake region this winter.

Based on existing snowpack levels, they are predicting 87% of normal runoff on the Snake River at Heise. Assuming normal levels of precipitation for the rest of the winter, they are expecting most reservoirs to fill this year.

As of this week, the overall Upper Snake reservoir system is currently at 73% of storage capacity.
