Boise State blue turf to be updated
The blue turf that brought fame to Boise State University’s athletic stadium will be refreshed this year.
The Idaho Statesman reports Boise State has received permission from Idaho’s Permanent Building Fund Advisory Council to spend $600,000 to replace turf at Albertsons Stadium. The board approves state public works.
Boise State athletic director Curt Apsey says the artificial turf is near the end of its expected lifespan. Fields typically last eight to 10 years. The current turf was installed in 2010.
Apsey estimates the final cost at $600,000 to $1 million.
The turf will remain its trademark Bronco Blue but more area will be covered.
Aspey says the turf will extend to stands on the west side of the stadium. The east side will expand up to 12 feet (3.7 meters).
