Camp Hayden gives kids chance to create art

Some future artists got the chance to create art and have a lot of fun while doing it. Camp Hayden presents Hayden’s HeARTS at the Idaho Falls YMCA.

“Hayden was my nephew who passed away at the young age of 3, and he just brought so much joy to our lives, and it’s great to still have his legacy live on through watching these families and the joy that they have,” said Jamie Taylor, a board member for Camp Hayden.

It is an eight-week art experience for people with developmental and/or physical disabilities. Each week will feature a different teacher and art medium. Camp Hayden says this is a safe space where everyone can explore their ability to create art.

“A lot of times, with families and kids with special needs, art is not really something they do often because it can be very messy,” said Amy Smith, secretary for Camp Hayden. “It’s not the norm sometimes. This is just an opportunity for them to do whatever.”

The finale of the program will have an art exhibit and auction to display the artwork to the public.

To preregister for this class, contact Holly Giglio at (208) 313-8443.

Participants pay only a $20 registration fee.

Camp Hayden also accepts donations of any and all art supplies.

Specific needs are: watercolors and acrylic paints, paintbrushes of all sizes, watercolor paper, all sizes of canvases, paper towels, styrofoam plates, colored polymer clay and oil pastels.
