Fremont County Commissioner Meeting has residents excited for new overpass ruling
Fremont County Commissioner Meeting has residents excited for new overpass ruling. Twice a month all elected officials in Fremont county get together as part of the County Commissioner meeting. The new city coroner was there for the first time today. This morning’s meeting went over the number of inmates the county currently had in custody and how it’s overpopulating the jail. They discussed whether or not they should have a bond to expand on that jail. No decision has been made on that yet. The Commissioner meeting also went over the decision made by the transportation department in regarding the wildlife overpass in island park. Back in November, Fremont county took a vote to see what options they wanted to take in order to protect wildlife in the area. Len Humphries the Fremont County Sheriff says, “Reference to the wildlife overpass in Island Park they had selected option number three which is what the Commissioner and I as well as most of the residents in Fremont County had wanted.” According to the votes, the majority of the city was against building a new overpass. Option number three entails cutting trees further back from the highway so wildlife can be seen. It will also include expanding the roadway and adding an electronic sensor to detect if wildlife that is nearby. It is not clear yet when these changes will be made.
