High Valley Dermatology offering a month long Melanoma Monday free clinic
It’s Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s also Melanoma Monday.
High Valley Dermatology in Idaho Falls participated in the SPOTme Skin Cancer screening where locals could get a free cancer screening.
This program is a national event that has been going on since 1985 and has helped over 2.7 million people in the United States and was put on by the American Academy of Dermatology.
High Valley Dermatology has practiced the program for 6 years and during that time they have seen over 150 types of skin cancer from people in the area.
“I hear this a lot, oh it’s just my skin or oh it’s just skin cancer and that couldn’t be any further from the truth people die from skin cancer every year and every day,” Dermatologist Lindsay Sewell said. “One person dies from melanoma in the US every hour so saying it’s just skin cancer or it’s just my skin is really a problem. people don’t appreciate it as much.”
High Valley Dermatology had planned on holding the free clinic for just Monday, but because of the overwhelming number of people who came in, they have decided to extend Melanoma Monday to every Monday in the month of May. But, this does not include Memorial Day.
