Forest Service lawmen seek Roosevelt Fire witness
U.S. Forest Service law enforcement officials have not given up their effort to locate the person or persons responsible for starting the devastating Roosevelt Fire last summer.
The fire led to the loss of numerous private homes and buildings in the Bondurant area and serious injuries to National Forest visitors. The area is located about three-quarters of a mile east of the lower reaches of Roosevelt Meadows, just inside the Sublette County line.
Investigators have determined the fire was human caused, probably originating from an abandoned or inadequately extinguished warming fire in the upper reaches of the Hoback River drainage. Interviews conducted during the course of the investigation have led to a description of a person of interest in the case.
They are looking for a person seen on the afternoon of Friday, September 14, 2018 below the point of origin of the fire. He is described as 5’10” to 6′ tall, weighing 185-200 pounds. He was carrying a hunting rifle and a compound bow on his pack. He was reported to be scouting the north rim of the canyon for a long period of time. Investigators believe he may have information about how the fire began.
Anyone with information about the cause of the incident or the identity of the individual seen in the area, is encouraged to contact U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement at 208-557-5852. Be sure to leave a message with information as to how investigators may reach you.
