Court doc: Victim’s brother-in-law shot, killed her after argument at home

PORTLAND, Oregon (KPTV) — A woman died after she was shot in the back of the head at her north Portland home on Sunday morning, according to court documents, and her brother-in-law has been arrested for murder.
On Monday, Portland police identified the victim of the shooting in the 8000 block of North Newman Avenue as 29-year-old Alexandra R. Arb-Bloodgood. The suspected shooter is 25-year-old Shane Finnell, who is Arb-Bloodgood’s brother-in-law. Finnell was arrested Sunday after responding officers found Arb-Bloodgood’s body. He faces charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
According to a probable cause affidavit submitted in the case, Finnell was in the front yard of a neighboring home when officers responded to the shooting call.
When Finnell was taken into custody, the court document states he made the following unsolicited statement to officers: “I did a horrible thing.”
The neighbor’s whose yard Finnell was found in told police he was in his home when he heard a gunshot. When the neighbor went out to his front porch, he said he saw the suspect across the street, flailing his arms and looking upset. The neighbor told police that he asked Finnell what happened, and he replied that he had shot “Alex,” his brother’s wife. The neighbor asked Finnell about the gun used in the shooting and it was found in the front yard of the victim’s home. When police were on scene, the neighbor directed them to the gun and told them he was instructed by Finnell to call 911. Finnell sat in the neighbor’s yard until officers arrived.
The court document states Arb-Bloodgood’s husband and Finnell’s brother, Jordan Arb, was interviewed by PPB. According to Arb, he had an argument with Finnell over laundry and in response, Finnell threw a potted plant at Arb.
Arb told police that his wife was sitting in a chair on the back patio and was facing away from Finnell when Finnell walked over to Arb-Bloodgood and shot her in the back of her head in close range with a revolver.
On Monday evening, FOX 12’s Bridget Chavez spoke with the victim’s brother, Matthew Bloodgood, who was still processing his sister’s death.
“It’s the shock of something that should never happen to anyone, and you just never expect it something like this to happen,” Bloodwood said.
He remembers his sister as “just a great person she you know, very feisty, but I mean words can’t even describe what kind of person she really was.”
Bloodgood told FOX 12 that his family is very much grieving his sister’s death, but they had a message for the community: “If you ever have anyone that expresses any desire to hurt themselves or others don’t hesitate to try to do something about it, I mean that’s the biggest thing we can pull out of it as far as a lesson.”
Arb-Bloodgood’s death marked the 32nd homicide in the city of Portland this year.
