FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Latest closures and information as winter storms move across the area

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 5 p.m. Heavy snow and strong winds are hitting much of southern Idaho. Travel could be difficult with visibility being reduced because of blowing and drifting snow.

5:55 p.m. - SCHOOL CLOSURES: Idaho Science and Technology Charter School, Blackfoot Charter and Bingham Academy in Blackfoot will be closed tomorrow, January 10.

5:41 p.m. - SCHOOL CLOSURE: Snake River School District 52 Facebook says there will be no school on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

5:25 p.m. - ROAD CLOSURE: SH-47 from Milepost 2 to Milepost 12, between Ashton to Warm River.

4:55 p.m. - ROAD CLOSURE: US-30 From milepost 371 to 407 between Lava Hot Springs and Soda Springs. Caribou County Sheriff says, "Please do not travel past any road closure barriers as emergency crews are working to clear existing accidents and slide-offs."

4:51 p.m. - ROAD CLOSURE: SH-32 from Ashton to Tetonia.

4:48 p.m. - City of Shelley snow proclamation in effect at 7 p.m.  Please remove all vehicles from the street to avoid being towed.  Plowing will begin in the early morning hours and continue until the streets have been cleared. 

4:45 pm. - From Madison School District #321 Facebook page: Bus 06-2 in the Hibbard area was involved in an accident. Everyone is ok and safe. They are sending another bus to transport the kids. They will be a little late, but do not worry.

4:35 p.m. - City of Idaho Falls Park and Recreation Department is closing all its facilities at 6 p.m. tonight. The closure includes the Joe Marmo/Wayne Lehto Ice Arena, the Wes Diest Aquatic Center and the Recreation Center.

4:30 p.m. - Weather stations are reporting snow squalls. Pocatello Regional Airport reported wind gusts of 51 mph. Raft River has wind gusts of 56 MPH and in Paul a weather station is reporting 60 mph wind gust. Cotton Ridge in Cassia County has reported a 71 mph gust.

4:10 p.m. - Girls Basketball Cancellation:
Pocatello vs. Madison

3:50 p.m. - Girls Basketball Cancellations:  
Skyline vs. Shelley
Bonneville vs. Blackfoot.
Thunder Ridge vs. Highland. 

Boys Basketball Cancellations:
Leadore Vs. Rockland.

3:45 p.m. - SCHOOL CLOSURE: Blackfoot School District reported they will not hold classes on Wednesday, Jan. 10 due to the weather.

Ririe Boys and Girls Basketball and Junior High Boys Basketball Game are canceled for tonight.

North Fremont High School has canceled both High School games for tonight.

3:30 p.m. - Bonneville School District 93 says buses are running 30 to 40 minutes late. Middle and High School will be let out at 3:30 p.m.

3:00 p.m. - Rupert Police reported rain, hail, sleet, graupel, then back to snow. Also, there have been reports of several lightning strikes in that cell. Burley airport reported gusts up to 66 mph. 71 mph winds were reported at the Yale ITD site.

2:30 p.m. - The Humanitarian Center in Idaho Falls will be closed Wednesday due to the weather.
