Man surrenders to deputies after barricading himself in Ammon home
AMMON, Idaho (KIFI) - A man who barricaded himself in a home in Ammon surrendered to deputies.
Bonneville County Sheriff's office said just after 9 a.m. Monday they received a report of an intoxicated man who was out of control. They were told the man was destroying items in the house and was possibly intoxicated and armed. This happened on Oak Ridge Dr., and Curlew Drive in Ammon near the Cal-Ranch corporate offices.
When deputies arrived, he went inside and would not come out. They determined he may have access to a firearm and called in the Sheriff's Tactical Team. As a precaution, they advised nearby businesses and a nearby school to shelter in place.
After more than 90 minutes, the man agreed to leave the house after they negotiated with him by phone.
Police identified the man as Javier Mendoza, Jr., 33. He is being held in the Bonneville County Jail on a Felony charge for malicious injury to property and a Misdemeanor for resisting arrest.
No one else was inside the home and no one was injured.
