Judge orders mental health exam for California man accused of courthouse explosion

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge had ordered a mental health evaluation for a California man arrested in a courthouse bomb attack that injured five people had planned to kill deputies and a judge. U.S. Magistrate Judge A. Joel Richlin in Los Angeles ordered the evaluation after Nathaniel McGuire, 20, interrupted his arraignment hearing, yelling about world events and blaming the government. McGuire did not enter a plea and another hearing was scheduled for Oct. 18. McGuire has been charged with maliciously damaging a building with an explosive. McGuire told law enforcement after his arrest Wednesday that he had gone to the courthouse planning to kill deputies and a judge. His defense attorney, Iboh Umodu, declined to comment.
