ATMORE, Ala. (AP) — A man who admitted to killing five people in 2016 has been executed by lethal injection in Alabama. Derrick Dearman was pronounced dead Thursday at Holman prison in southern Alabama. Prosecutors say Dearman killed five people at a home where his estranged girlfriend had taken refuge. Dearman pleaded guilty after firing his lawyers. He dropped his appeals this year and asked that his execution go forward. Prosecutors said Dearman used an ax and a gun to kill the victims. Dearman says he was on meth at the time of the killings.
