Man accused of killing Charlie Kirk set for first in-person court appearance
PROVO, Utah (KIFI) — Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, is scheduled to make his first in-person court appearance this Thursday afternoon, December 11th, in Utah.
Shooting and Manhunt Background
Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of the influential conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was killed on September 10th while giving a speech at Utah Valley University.
Authorities suspect that Robinson gunned down Kirk from a nearby rooftop during the event. Following the incident, Robinson's family arranged for the 22-year-old to turn himself in after recognizing him as the shooter from photos released by the FBI.
Court Proceedings and Charges
This hearing will mark Robinson's third court appearance, but his first physically present in the courtroom. His previous two appearances were conducted remotely via video and audio link.
Robinson has been formally charged with seven felony counts, which include aggravated murder and a violent offense committed in the presence of a child aggravating factor. The state of Utah has formally declared its intention to seek the death penalty against Robinson.
