Coroner identifies deceased following Bannock County shooting, more details released
POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 1/16/23: The Bannock County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the deceased following the shooting on Monday in Bannock County.
Officials say 49-year-old Zacary M. Shumway of Bannock County was shot and killed at 8765 North Maple Grove Lane near Pocatello Creek Road.
Next of kin has been notified.
According to the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call for a domestic dispute at 1:17 a.m. on Monday. Deputies arrived to find a 49-year-old man shot and killed, later identified as Shumway.
Three other people were inside the home, who were all uninjured. All persons of interest are cooperating with the investigation and have been interviewed.
The sheriff’s office is working with the Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office to determine what, and if any, charges will be filed. That will be determined as the investigation unfolds.
The Bannock County Coroner’s Office is ordering an autopsy for the deceased to confirm the cause and manner of death.
Investigators believe this is an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community. Deputies closed North Maple Grove Lane to collect evidence and reopened the road to the public at 6:10 p.m. on Monday.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience while our investigators work through the details of this case,” Sheriff Tony Manu said.
The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office is assisted by Pocatello Police, Idaho State Police, Bannock County Search and Rescue, and the Bannock County Coroner’s Office. The incident remains under investigation by the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office.
ORIGINAL: A person is dead from a gunshot wound following a domestic dispute, according to the Bannock County Sheriff's office.
Deputies are still investigating the death that happened on Pocatello Creek Road in the early hours of Monday morning.
The sheriff's office said more information will be released later today. They believe this is an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public.
