California’s Newsom plays hardball in China, collides with student during schoolyard basketball game

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recent trip to China was highlighted by a surprise meeting with leader Xi Jinping. But it might be best remembered for a video showing him steamrolling a schoolboy during a basketball game. The two-term Democrat took a detour from his official meetings on climate change to join a group of Beijing schoolkids on the court. Video circulating online shows Newsom twirling the basketball on a fingertip then executing a spin move as he heads toward the basket. But he loses his balance and collides with a schoolboy defender, sending them both to the ground. No one was injured.
