WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is marking the 15th anniversary of a landmark pay equity law with new steps to tackle persistent gaps in pay for federal government employees and those who work for federal contractors. The Biden administration is finalizing regulations that will bar the federal government from using a person’s private sector pay history to determine what they would earn working for the federal government or a federal contractor. The Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was the first bill President Barack Obama signed into law after taking office in 2009. Biden was vice president. Administration officials say the regulations are needed to address differences in federal pay for women and men.
