Snow King prepares for earliest public opening

JACKSON, Wyo. (KIFI) - Many preparations are being made for winter season at Snow King Mountain Ski Resort in Jackson Hole. While the winter ski season is right around the corner next month, there are lots of additions coming to Snow King that will open up next spring or summer. Funds from record breaking snowfall and attendance seasons like last year help out with these projects.

The biggest addition will be the star gazing observatory. It will be filled up with a classroom and planetarium. It is topped off with a half a million dollar telescope weighing 3,600 pounds. Anyone will be able to see anything at all within the universe even if it is millions of light years away. The opening is scheduled for next May or June.

A restaurant will open up a the top of the mountain next to the gondola. Besides tasty treats, the restaurant will offer 360 degree views of the Tetons.

Concerts were a big new hit last year at the top of Snow King Mountain. Managers decided to upgrade the concert grounds this year with new grass and sod. This was much needed especially since one of the concerts this previous summer was canceled due to muddy conditions.

Opening day for the season at Snow King is planned for Nov. 24. Weather conditions permitting, this will be one of its earliest public opening dates in recent history.
