High school students to run kindle drive for South African school
JACKSON, Wyo. (KIFI) — Jackson Hole High School Rotary Interact Club students will run a kindle drive to support a school in South Africa.
In the impoverished regions of South Africa, many schools do not have the resources to purchase books for students.
For the past two years, the rotary interact club has held an annual car wash to support other schools in Africa. The first project funded the salary of Mr. Mgoqi, a science and math teacher at Ntsika Secondary School.
Last year the money raised was put toward new staff room furniture at Riebeeck East Combined School.
More recently, the club has been working on fundraising for causes in the community, such as the free and reduced lunch program for the school district.
“This project gives us an amazing opportunity to provide learning resources for those in need. It is very meaningful to be part of a project that supports people our age,” Jackson Hole High School Rotary Interact Club president Grace Meadows said.
You can donate kindles that are 2016 or newer. The kindles will be cleared and loaded with books before being sent to South Africa. Kindle drop off locations will be set up at the Teton County Library, Smiths, Jackson Hole High School and the Center for the Arts. These locations will be collecting kindles through January.
