Highland’s Nick Sorrell succeeds Gino Mariani as Rams Head Football Coach

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - A long time coach and former player will take over for a legend, as defensive coordinator Nick Sorrell has been promoted to head coach of the Highland Rams football team, replacing Gino Mariani, per Highland Athletic Director Travis Bell.

Sorrell will follow in the footsteps of local legend Gino Mariani, who stepped down as head coach nearly two weeks ago after more than two decades as head coach.

Mariani left Highland as the winningest coach in school history and a four-time state champion. Sorrell was a player on Mariani's first championship-winning team and the defensive coordinator on his fourth.

Sorrell joins a legendary list of head coaches at Highland, including Mariani as well as Jim and Dirk Koetter, and Sorrell will seek to keep the Rams competing at a high level.
