Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donates 18 pallets of water to Roberts
ROBERTS, Idaho (KIFI) - On Wednesday afternoon, 18 pallets of bottled water were offloaded to help provide the City of Roberts some relief while they still are under a boil order. The pallets donated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will provide much needed help to those hit hard by the effects of the order.
Of the 18 pallets, 17 are stored at the city shop, and one went directly to the Roberts Elementary school. Roberts Mayor Robert "BJ" Berlin says the next step is to get the water into people's hands.
"The next step with our bottled water this afternoon will be getting our volunteers together, figure out how many cases we can, a lot to each household. And our main plan right now is to have people come to where we've got it stored at our Mustang center at the city shop," he said. "Come by, and helpers will help load it in their cars. People who are homebound or unable can contact us we have people who can help deliver."
He says the water is earmarked for those on the city water system as they are the ones that are under the boil order.
Mayor Berlin is also the owner of the BJ's Bayou Restaurant in town. He says while it makes some things harder in the end they'll get through it.
"Restaurants are required by law to have sanitizing systems in place of their their dish dishware cleaning and washing of glassware washing. So that sanitizing is very strong and it takes care of the cleaning of things. Cooking, obviously, if you're cooking, you're boiling," he said.
Testing is continuing with the city water system and the mayor says the latest round is promising.
"Our operator came to me while we were unloading this truck to let me know that seven tests that were done yesterday all came clean. The boil order is still in effect. So that's that hasn't changed," he said. "But it's a good sign that we're moving forward and we're still looking at the fighting out why we have a problem, how to solve the problem and how to hopefully never have the problem again."
