Costumes shine in Gate City
POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - Some people go all out when it comes to Halloween, and we were able to see some of those efforts at the Historic Downtown Pocatello event this year.
Local News 8's Linda Larsen was there to join in the fun, and she tells us the real stars of the show were the costumes with one family branching out and hand making their family tree.
Take a look at this Groot family. The construction effort was a labor of love for family and friends that were willing to spend countless hours working on these masterpieces.Â
"We've loved doing the costumes since the kids were small, and this was by far the biggest challenge has ever taken on," Seleta Talbot said.
So after an online search, she found a man who makes theatrical quality props. He made the heads and taught her how to do the rest.
"They're made with furniture, foam and latex and fabric and paint and all sorts of things," Talbot said. "So he did custom make the heads for it, and the mark plates because that was super hard. And so but we did everything else which you know, was also so fun."
It took a lot of people over a month to finish this family tree, but seeing everyone's reaction to it made it all worth it.
"You know, I think I love it the most. And I'm glad that they come along with me, but I think that they've enjoyed seeing the kids and other people that we've come in contact with. He's so excited," Talbot said. "And last week at the zoo, we had a little kid that came up and just hugged daddy groot and it was so tender."
"It's fun to see little kids get excited, you know that people recognize even if they don't even know that it's fun," Brett Talbot said. And it's a happy thing and, so it's fun to see people get t excited about it."
And their kids have enjoyed lots of fun events and comicon. And they say the reaction of their of their friends has been great.
"Everyone was going around saying, "You're Groot?" and then they would always talk to me back and said yes, we were Goot. We were the marvel cinematic universe route. They couldn't believe their eyes," Collin Talbot said.
"It's a lot of fun, and I love the fact that I'm also a princess," Daphne Talbot said. "So a lot of little girls when we are walking around are like,' hey, it's a princess' and we'd curtsy back and forth and that was a lot of fun."
The family says they can't wait to get started on next year's costumes, and we can't wait to see how in the world they're going to top this.
