Shelley School District $67.8 million bond fails

SHELLEY, Idaho (KIFI) — UPDATE: Voters living in the Shelley Joint School District 60 boundary decided the district will not get a new high school.

The $67.8 million bond failed Tuesday.

• AGAINST 1,876 - 52%

1,876 people voted against the bond with 52%. 1,760 people voted in favor with 48%.

Bond issues in Idaho require a 66.7% supermajority support from voters to pass.

ORIGINAL: Tuesday marks election day. Much of eastern Idaho is voting on important issues from mayor to school bonds. Voters living in the Shelley Joint School District 60 boundary will decide whether or not the district will get a new high school.

District 60 has proposed a $67.8 million bond. If passed, it will provide the district funds to construct a new high school and making other improvements to existing schools.

There was a steady, constant flow of voters turning out to cast their votes on the bond throughout the day.

Polls will remain open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Polling places can be found on the Bingham County Elections website.
