Tracking a Cool Start, Then Summer Turns It Back Up

We’ll start the day with a little cloud cover across Eastern Idaho, but the sun will break through and give us a pretty nice afternoon. There’s just a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, mainly where the mountains get involved.

Highs around the valley settle into the lower to mid-80s, with a noticeable breeze. Winds could gust around 20 mph, especially near any passing storms.

Up in the mountains, it’s a cooler story — look for afternoon temperatures generally in the upper 60s to mid-70s, with the chance for an isolated storm popping up.

Tonight is the payoff: mostly clear skies and comfortable 50s across the valleys, with some of the colder mountain spots dropping into the 40s.

Warming Trend

Tuesday starts the climb, with mid-80s in the valleys and 70s in the mountains. Wednesday gets warmer, and by Thursday and Friday we’re looking at low to mid-90s in the lower elevations.

So if you’re thinking about getting outside, today through Wednesday will be the more comfortable stretch before the heat really settles back in.

The good news is we’re not looking at a long, relentless heat wave. The extended outlook suggests temperatures ease back some heading into the weekend, with another round of upper 80s to around 90 possible.

Bottom line: cool mornings, warm afternoons, and summer turning the thermostat back up by midweek. Enjoy those 50-degree mornings while we’ve got them — because the 90s are coming back for a visit.
