Braxton Cox wins Distinguished Student Award
The United Dairymen of Idaho Distinguished Student Award winner is passionate about fixing cars.
“I love auto mechanics because there’s never one job that ‘s the same,” Braxton Cox said. “Even if you have an identical car coming in for the same reason, it can be for a different cause or you could have a different problem, or find a whole new issue the customer didn’t have any idea about. It really keeps me on my toes.”
Not only does Cox enjoy working on cars, he’s very good at it. Cox is modest about all the auto mechanics contest awards he has won as a student, but his teacher doesn’t hesitate to brag about Cox’s first place automotive awards and his skills.
“He’s thorough, he does complete work, and he’s determined to complete the project no matter how difficult it is — he’s been amazing,” instructor Jeremy Bird said.
Cox is president of the high school’s Automotive Skills USA chapter, he’s on the football team and he’s involved in Boy’s Federation, an organization that focuses on school fundraisers and public service projects. They help with the July 4th parade and putting up flags on Memorial Day.
“Whether it’s service projects or fundraisers, they just allow you to step out and not only do something good for other people, but also maybe experience something new that you wouldn’t have otherwise,” Cox said.
Cox plans to study mechanical engineering at Idaho State University and hopes to open an automotive performance aftermarket shop.
