Pocatello City Council celebrates Idaho Day
A historic day in idaho. This year, Idaho Day is a statewide celebration with all cities honoring the heroes of our communities. March fourth 1863 was the day president abraham lincoln signed a proclamation creating the idaho territory.
The community and city leaders gathered in the pocatello city council chambers this afternoon to pay tribute.
And even a historic leader was there (chief pocatello)… Whose name was given to the city.
It was a historic day in idaho today… Celebrating idaho and its heroes of the past and present.
“And so several years ago the state legislature determined we were gonna have march the 4th as idaho day throughout history,” said Jim Johnston, Trustee of District 6 Historic Society.
Idaho territory came in 1863 as part as a proclamation signed by president abraham lincoln. And like many of the proud people in the room… Murdoch shared her story as an idaho native.
“I was actually born and raised in ashton, id. I didn’t move to pocatello until 1989. I left for 2 years and went to st. Louis for an internship and came back. I have over 20 years in museums,” said Lynn Murdoch.
This was the day for history buffs to feast on this historic day. Many others just enjoyed the stories of memory lane.
“I think it’s exciting for me personally to be able to recognize our state and be a part of that – recognition you know,” said Mayor Brian Blad, who was giving out many awards to community heroes.
As part of Idaho day, the First Friday Art Walk on main street is tonight, it will be feature some of the history throughout Pocatello.
