Rexburg McDonald’s donating to crossing guard’s family

A McDonald’s in Rexburg is honoring a crossing guard killed in a car accident a couple of weeks ago.

Fifty-three year-old Kathleen Striffler was killed when the SUV she was riding in crashed on Interstate 90 near Columbus in south-central Montana.

The McDonald’s on University Boulevard has declared Monday to be Striffler Day in honor of the death of the local crossing guard and will be donating all profits raised from Monday until midnight to the Striffler family.

People who came out to show their support remember Striffler for her personality and how she contributed to the community.

“Great lady. She was a crossing guard for the school district. It’s wonderful that the community really put things together for her and her family,” Bruce Herker said.

Trent Cicho, who owns the McDonald’s restaurant, said she will be missed.

“I think it’s very important and think it’s a chance for us as a community to come together and share some stories about Kathy,” Cichos said. “I think one of the things we will always remember is her smile.”

Striffler’s husband, Henry, and son Glenn survived the crash.
