Idaho’s Buzz Saw shark makes its way back home

The Buzz Saw Shark has made its way back home to Idaho.

The Museum of Natural History in Pocatello held a ribbon cutting Tuesday for the new Buzz Saw Shark exhibit.

The Buzz Saw Shark existed over 260 million years ago, right here in Idaho. The unique shark has razor sharp teeth in the shape of a saw. Although the fossil has been found worldwide since the 1800’s, it is Idaho where the greatest number and quality of fossils are unearthed in the phosphate mines between Soda Springs and Pocatello.

So far, this exhibit has over 85 fossils, making it the home of the largest collection of the Buzz Saw in the world. This is a “STEAM” exhibit, meaning that, it is an interactive experience that tells the story of the shark through science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.

The Buzz Saw shark exhibit is now open to the public and will remain on display through the summer of 2019.
