Man found guilty after shooting at teen who asked for directions

A jury found the man who shot a teen who had knocked on his door asking for directions guilty of assault and intent to do bodily harm on Friday in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Jeffrey Ziegler was found guilty of assault, intent to do great bodily harm and possession of a firearm after he shot a teenager who knocked on his door trying to find out how to get to school after missing the bus in April.

Ziegler’s attorney Rob Morad said he says his client was overcharged and feels there wasn’t proof of intent to murder in this case.

Ziegler and his wife say they thought the teen was trying to break in.

Surveillance video from the home caught what happened on the porch.

Ziegler says he got his gun from his office and was trying to protect his wife when he lost balance.

Ziegler said he regrets what happened, and if he could do things differently he would have given the teen a ride.

One woman who supports the family, Susan Kennedy, has been at all court proceedings. She says she is grateful to God that Ziegler is going to jail for a little bit to think about his action for the rest of his life just as the victim’s family will.

Ziegler’s bond was revoked and his sentencing was scheduled for November 18th.
