ISU Faculty Constitution approved
“A pivotal moment in the history of Idaho State University.”
That is how ISU President Kevin Satterlee describes a new Faculty Constitution that won approval from the Idaho State Board of Education at its regular board meeting Thursday.
“The Board is heartened by the way the ISU Faculty Senate and President Satterlee worked together to develop the new constitution. We look forward to continued cooperation between them for the betterment of Idaho State University,” said Board President, Dr. Linda Clark.
The faculty voted to ratify the new constitution by a vote of 274 to 6 on October 23 and 24 and Satterlee approved it November 1.
Satterlee said he was grateful to the faculty’s commitment to the future of the university, adding, “I believe in shared governance and I believe that we are better when we work together. It is my hope that we will go beyond the requirements of this document and build a relationship that truly demonstrates how an exceptional faculty and dedicated administration can leverage each others’ strengths for the ultimate benefit of the students that we serve.”
Hossein Mousavinezhad, Faculty Senate Co-Chair, added, “As a senate, we had been working on the constitution since 2011, so we are glad that it is finalized. Now, faculty can begin working with new university administration to help move ISU towards a brighter future.”
The faculty senate will begin work developing organizational by-laws and aligning a number of University councils to report through the senate.
