Wyoming student enrollment up by 53

Wyoming student enrollment grew by a total of 53 students overall last year.

According to the State Department of Education, enrollment in kindergarten through 12th grade totaled 92,976 in 2017-18 compared to 93,029 students this year.

While enrollment was up in some areas, population declined in others.

“As our state is focused on economic diversity, it’s encouraging to see a slight increase in school enrollment,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow. “Wyoming has a quality education system and it is a factor families certainly consider when moving to or staying in Wyoming.”

Sheridan County School District #1 gained the most students, with 88. Laramie County School District had 81 new students, and Natrona County School District #1 had 64. On the other side of the ledger, for example, Sweetwater County School District saw 101 fewer students year-to-year.

Teton County, for the record, had 2,881 students enrolled this year, 19 more than a year ago.
