Cody area grizzly relocated to the back-country

Wyoming Game and Fish personnel captured and relocated an adult, female grizzly bear last Thursday, August 8.

The bear, which was killing livestock on private lands in the Cody region, was captured and relocated to the Bailey Creek drainage, about 11 miles northwest of Moran Junction.

Relocation is a management tool to minimize conflicts between humans and grizzly bears. Once captured, officials determine if a bear can be relocated or removed from the population. The selection of a relocation site is determined by considering the animal’s age, sex, and the type of conflict the bear was involved in.

In this case, Wyoming Game and Fish officials said the location was chosen because of the lack of human presence in the area.
