KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KMBC) — The Chiefs are so close to the Super Bowl they can taste it.
And if you’re anything like head coach Andy Reid, victory tastes like one dessert in particular; chocolate cake.
Reid recently compared his desire to win a second Super Bowl to the act of wanting chocolate cake after the first piece, and not stopping until you’ve had more.
“You have to make sure you manage it and keep the quality,” said Jaresha Campbell, owner of Cake-A-Boo.
Chocolate cake sales for Kansas City bakeries like Cake-A-Boo have been soaring.
“The minute Andy Reid mentioned the chocolate cake, I was wondering, I was like, did I miss something? Was there something I missed? And everyone was like, ‘I gotta have a chocolate cake,’ and I’m like OK, cool!” Campbell said.
Campbell says she has 12 orders of Chiefs-themed chocolate cakes for Sunday’s big game plus many more.
“I can’t even count how many cupcake orders I have,” Campbell said.
She says the uptick of business came at the right time.
“Being a small business and trying to make it through COVID, it’s just fantastic, and such a blessing for me and my family,” Campbell said.
She hopes the orders keep coming and the Chiefs get back the title.
“It’s just so exciting to be from Kansas City to have that excitement. They’re going to win the game, no if, c’mon,” Campbell said.
Kansas City Chiefs superfan and Leavenworth, Kansas native Melissa Etheridge debuted a new Chiefs tribute song titled, Chocolate Cake.
